Jason Paige — the singer for the original Pokemon anime’s theme song — got back into a recording studio to reminisce about the beloved ’90s TV show intro.
While Paige was there, he proved he hasn’t lost his edge in the vocals department. In the video, Paige sounds exactly as he did when he recorded the song nearly 20 years ago. It’s one of the most enthusiastic performances of the song we’ve likely ever seen. See for yourself in the video below, via Destructoid.
The Pokemon anime is currently in its 19th season, and the franchise’s 19th feature film, Volcanion and the Mechanical Magerna, just recently released in Japan. Paige didn’t really think about the TV show theme song when he first recorded the anthem, the singer said in an interview with CNN. He’s very grateful for the ways things turned out in the end: “My voice is the underscore to millions of childhood experiences,” Paige said. “It’s absolutely invaluable.”
